Terms of use

Last updated September 2026 · Applies to echoback.world

The agreement between you and EchoBack. It is written in plain English on purpose: you should be able to read the thing you are agreeing to. By creating an account you accept these terms.

What EchoBack is

A matching service. You upload music; we analyse it and show you real artists and producers whose sound it resembles, or show your sound to creators whose tracks resemble it.

We do not generate music. We are not a record label, a publisher, a distributor or an agent. We are not a party to anything you agree with someone you meet here, and we do not check anyone’s credentials for you — make your own judgement before you send anyone your work or your money.

Your account

You must be 18 or over to use EchoBack. One account per person. Keep your password to yourself: you are responsible for what happens under your account, and you should tell us straight away if you think someone else has got into it.

Everything you put on your profile should be true. Pretending to be someone else — another artist, a label, a manager — is grounds for closing the account.

Your music stays yours

You keep every right you had before you uploaded. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to do only these things, and only in order to run the service:

  • Store your audio so the service can work.
  • Analyse it to produce fingerprints, matching vectors and a waveform.
  • Play a capped preview of around thirty seconds to a member you have matched with, and the full track to someone once the two of you are in a conversation.

That is the entire licence. We do not sell, sub-license, distribute, publish, broadcast or perform your audio, we do not use it to train machine-learning models, and we do not let anyone else do those things either. Deleting an upload ends the licence for it.

We take no cut

If something comes out of a match — a record, a credit, a fee, a royalty, a publishing split — it is entirely yours. We take no commission and claim no ownership of the results, ever.

Whatever you agree with a collaborator is between the two of you. We strongly suggest you put it in writing before anyone does any work.

What you must not upload

  • Anything you do not hold or control the rights to, including other people's recordings, stems, samples and vocals.
  • Anything that imitates a real, identifiable person's voice without their permission.
  • Anything unlawful, defamatory, hateful, or made to harass or intimidate someone.
  • Anything containing malware, or anything that is not actually music you want matched.

We will remove uploads that breach this and may close accounts that keep doing it. Rights and consent sets out the detail, including how this applies to AI-generated audio and how to report something of yours that is here without permission.

The same goes for messages: what you send another member through EchoBack should be about working together. Unsolicited advertising, abuse and attempts to move people off the service to defraud them are all grounds for closing an account.

Subscriptions and payment

Uploading, being matched, seeing how many people matched you, hearing what they sound like, and answering anyone who contacts you are free and always will be. A subscription lets you make the first move: reveal who matched you and reach out to them.

Prices are shown on the pricing page and again at checkout before you pay. They are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. Payment is taken by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.

A subscription renews automatically each month at the price you signed up at, until you cancel it. If we ever change the price of a plan you are on, we will email you at least 30 days beforehand, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel any time from your account settings. Cancelling stops the next payment and you keep the paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Your 14-day right to change your mind

Because you are a consumer buying online, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you 14 days from starting a subscription to cancel it and get your money back, for any reason or none.

Subscriptions start straight away so you can use what you paid for, and by subscribing you are asking us to begin immediately. That means if you cancel within the 14 days we may keep a proportionate amount for the days you had access, and refund the rest. Email hello@echoback.world within the 14 days and we will process it within 14 days of hearing from you, to the card you paid with.

After those 14 days we do not refund unused time on a cancelled month. If something on our side was broken and you did not get what you paid for, tell us — that is a different thing, and we will put it right.

Your statutory rights

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a paid digital service must be provided with reasonable care and skill, match how it was described, and be fit for purpose. If it is not, you are entitled to a repeat performance or a price reduction. Nothing in these terms affects those rights, and nothing here asks you to give them up.

What we do not promise

We cannot promise that anyone will match you, that a match will be any good, that anyone will accept your request, or that a collaboration will come of it. Matching is a similarity judgement made by software. It is an opinion about sound, not a guarantee of fit, quality or professional standing.

We aim to keep the service available and working, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may need to take it down for maintenance. Keep your own copies of your music — EchoBack is a matching service, not a backup.

Our liability to you

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

Otherwise, we are not liable for loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or any loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you started using the service, and our total liability to you for everything else is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred pounds.

We are not responsible for what other members do. If a collaboration goes wrong, that is between you and them.

Suspending or closing an account

You can delete your account whenever you like, from your account settings. It is immediate and it is not reversible.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. We will tell you why and give you a chance to reply, unless the breach is serious enough or unlawful enough that we cannot, or we are legally prevented from telling you. If we close a paid account for something that was not your fault, we refund the unused part of the month.

Changes to the service or these terms

EchoBack will change — that is what a working product does. We may add, alter or withdraw features. If a change materially reduces what you are paying for, or if we change these terms in a way that affects you, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect and you can cancel without penalty.

The date at the top of this page is the date it last changed. Older versions are available on request.

If something goes wrong

Email hello@echoback.world. We aim to reply within five working days and to resolve complaints within 30 days. Tell us what happened and what you would like us to do about it.

If we cannot sort it out between us, you can take the matter to an alternative dispute resolution provider, or to court. Nothing here stops you going to court.

The small print

  • These terms are the whole agreement between us about the service, and replace anything said beforehand.
  • If a court finds one clause unenforceable, the rest still stands.
  • If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your account to someone else. We may transfer this agreement if the business changes hands, and will tell you if that happens.
  • Nobody other than you and us has rights under this agreement.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You and we can both bring claims in the courts of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring them in your local courts.
